Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus, a tour of the Holy Land

Bob and Sharon McLean have lived and worked in Israel for several years.

They are happy to invite you to explore with them and an experienced local guide the fascinating ancient, yet modern land of the Bible.

Day 1 - Monday
Manchester - Tel Aviv

We depart from Manchester on our flight to Tel Aviv. On arrival we will be met and transferred to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 - Tuesday
Mount of Olives - Mount Zion

After a brief visit to the tomb of Lazarus in Bethany we drive to the top of the Mount of Olives and take in the view of the walled Old City of Jerusalem. We then walk down the Mount of Olives, the path taken on Palm Sunday visiting Dominus Flevit commemorating where Jesus wept over the city and the Garden of Gethsemane. We continue by bus to Mount Zion and the traditional site of the Upper room ending the day with a visit of the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, which was built over the site of the house of the High Priest Caiaphas and the dungeon where Jesus was imprisoned before his trial.

Day 3 - Wednesday
Way of the Cross

A morning visit to the Southern wall excavations of the Temple (the Davidson Museum), the Western Wall and the Western wall tunnels. Beginning at the Church of St. Anne and the pool of Bethesda we will walk the Via Dolorosa including the Tower of Antonia where Jesus was tried, the Church of the Flagellation and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Day 4 - Thursday
Yad Vashem and the Garden Tomb

We visit the Holocaust museum. Afterwards we drive to Ein Kerem, the birthplace of John the Baptist for a visit before we spend time in the Garden Tomb where we have the opportunity to share communion.

Day 5 - Friday
En Gedi - Masada - Dead Sea

Today we have a full day trip visiting En Gedi nature reserve and Masada, Herod’s hilltop fortress which we will ascend and descend by cable car. We will have the opportunity to enjoy a float in the Dead Sea at Ein Bokkek before returning for dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 6 - Saturday
Bethlehem

Our visit to Bethlehem includes the Shepherd’s fields and the Church of the Nativity. We return to Jerusalem after a lunch break when the rest of the afternoon is free.

Day 7 - Sunday
The morning is free to attend a local worship service.
Early afternoon we set out for Tiberias taking in the ancient ruins of Jericho.

Day 8 - Monday
Nazareth

Today we take the bus to Jesus’ home town of Nazareth visiting the site of the ancient synagogue and Nazareth village, which depicts life in the time of Jesus. We continue to Megiddo and Mt Tabor and the baptismal site on the River Jordan.
Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

Day 9 - Tuesday
Galilee - Capernaum - Mt Beatitude

Included today is a special boat trip on Galilee, Capernaum, the Mt. of Beatitudes commemorating Jesus’ sermon on the mount, Tabgha, the loaves and fishes church and the ruins of Chorazim.
Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

Day 10 - Wednesday
Carmel - Caesarea - Jaffa

We leave Tiberias and travel via Mt. Carmel to Caesarea on the coast with its Roman remains. We the continue to Jaffa for dinner and overnight.

Day 11 - Thursday
Jaffa

Morning free to enjoy Old Jaffa.
Mid Afternoon transfer to Ben Gurion for our return flight to Manchester.

Passports, Visas and Vaccinations
Travellers are responsible for ensuring that they have a valid passport for travel to the relevant countries and that it is valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. A visa is not required for British Passport holders visiting Israel. At the time this brochure went to press no vaccinations or inoculations are required for travel but you may wish to consult your own doctor for advice concerning this. If you have any queries regarding the above, we will be happy to help.

Further Information And Paying The Balance
Further information will be sent to you regarding any action that may be required approximately 10 weeks before departure. A final invoice will also be sent at this time and the balance for the tour must be paid at least 8 weeks before departure.

Travel Information
Full travel information, including details of meeting points, flight times, accommodation and travel information, will be sent to you approximately 2 weeks before departure. Normally, tickets are not issued but are handed to you at the airport or departure point by our representative who will be there to ensure that you depart without a hitch and to deal with any last minute difficulties.

Travel Insurance

Gratuities
Our normal procedure is to deal with tips on a group basis and these are included in the price. The tour leader will distribute them to the guide, driver and hotels on your behalf. Individual tipping is not recommended unless the circumstances are exceptional.

Room Check In and Check Out Times
The standard international practice is to let rooms from midday to midday. However times do vary. Check-in times are usually between 2pm and 3pm, check-out times between 11am and 12 noon on the day of departure. Therefore, if you check-in immediately after a night flight this would normally count as one night’s accommodation. Similarly if your return flight is at night you will normally be required to vacate your room at 12 noon prior to leaving for the airport. Day rooms are subject to availability/cost and should be arranged locally with the accommodation management.
