Encounter Tour to Israel & Palestine

Led By Rt Revd Rachel Treweek and Su McClellan

Monday 14th - Monday 21st February 2022

Bishop Rachel was consecrated as the 41st Bishop of Gloucester in 2015 and made history by becoming the first female diocesan bishop and the first female bishop in the House of Lords. Prior to becoming the Bishop of Gloucester all her ordained ministry was in London, most recently as the Archdeacon of Hackney. Following graduation from Reading University with a BA in Linguistics and Language Pathology, she worked as a Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist within the NHS. Bishop Rachel is passionate about gender justice and visited Egypt with Embrace Middle East in 2018 visiting projects particularly focused on women and girls. She has visited the Holy Land a couple of times, most recently during her sabbatical in 2019 when she spent two weeks around Galilee reflecting on Jesus’ encounters as portrayed in the Gospels.

Su regularly leads groups visiting the Holy Land for pilgrimages, study tours, educational exchanges and olive harvesting trips, as part of her work as the Senior Public Engagement Manager for Embrace the Middle East. She will be responsible for organising the tour, day-to-day practicalities and will be on hand to answer your questions about the current political situation, the Embrace Partners that you will meet and the impact of both on people’s lives.

The standard international practice is to let rooms from midday to midday. However times do vary. Check-in times are usually between 2pm and 3pm, check-out times between 11am and 12 noon on the day of departure. Therefore, if you check-in immediately after a night flight this would normally count as one night’s accommodation. Similarly if your return flight is at night you will normally be required to vacate your room at 12 noon prior to leaving for the airport. Day rooms are subject to availability/cost and should be arranged locally with the accommodation management.
