A Biblical tour of the Holy Land

Led by John Marshall

Thursday 27th April - Friday 5th May 2023

This tour has been planned, knowing that everyone will have a very special experience of the land where Jesus walked. Confidently, it can be described as a Biblical journey.

Until retirement, John Marshall pastored a church in Stafford. He and his wife, Linda, still live in the town and now worship in a local Baptist Church. Twice they have had the privilege of living in Jerusalem short-term when working as chaplain at the Garden Tomb. For the last twenty years John has been leading tours around The Land.

John comments, ‘I look forward to welcoming you to The Holy Land, where all the well-known stories in the Gospels will come alive in new ways as we journey with Jesus.’

DAY 1 - Thursday
We depart early morning from Luton airport for day flights to Tel Aviv. On arrival we will be transferred to a 4* Hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2 - Friday
We travel south through the Judean Hills to the town of David, Bethlehem - birthplace of Jesus the Messiah. After we have visited the Shepherds Fields where traditionally an angel appeared to announce the Saviour’s birth, our tour takes us to Manger Square and the church of the Nativity.
After lunch, the coach takes us to the Mount of Olives to retrace Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We will walk down the Palm Sunday Road visiting Dominus Flevit (where we remember Jesus weeping over Jerusalem). We will spend time overlooking Jerusalem before descending into the Garden of Gethsemane considering His final hours; this is a very powerful and moving experience.
Dinner and Overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 3 - Saturday
A day sightseeing in the Old City of Jerusalem. We start at The Pool of Bethesda where Jesus healed the crippled man. Following the Via Dolorosa, the traditional journey Jesus took to his crucifixion, we walk through the souk up to the Church of Holy Sepulchre.
After lunch our walk continues to Mount Zion retracing Jesus’ last 24 hours, to visit the Upper Room and the Church of St Peter where he denied his friend Jesus, three times. From here we will follow the original steps Jesus walked up from the Lower City (City of David) to the House of Caiaphas the High Priest.
Dinner and Overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 4 - Sunday
We start our day with an opportunity to worship (most probably) at St George’s Anglican Cathedral in Jerusalem. The coach will then take us to the Old City and we will visit the Temple Mount area taking time at the Wailing Wall before entering the Western Wall Tunnels to see the excavations from the time of Christ.
We take the short drive to the Israel Museum to view the large model of first century Jerusalem. We enter the Shrine of the Book, to view the Dead Sea scrolls (and catch a glimpse of the Knesset buildings too.
Dinner and Overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 5 - Monday
We start the day with a tour of the Garden Tomb, a powerful reinstatement of the resurrection. There will be the opportunity to share communion in this moving and beautiful setting.
The rest of the day will be at leisure in Jerusalem.
Dinner and Overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 6 - Tuesday
We travel through the Judean Wilderness, stopping at Wadi Qelt to view the old pathways Jesus walked on His journeys from Jericho to Jerusalem. We drive to the shores of the Dead Sea to visit En Gedi, the oasis where David took refuge when hunted by King Saul. We travel on to Qumram, near the caves where the community of the Essenes hid the Dead Sea scrolls. There will then be an opportunity to visit a resort on the Dead Sea and float in the salt waters at the lowest place on earth.
Our tour will take us to Jericho, the oldest inhabited city in the world, with an opportunity to view the Mount of Temptation.
Dinner and Overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 7 - Wednesday
Today we leave for Galilee. After breakfast we travel to Maritime Caesarea the Roman headquarters at the time of Christ and the home of Cornelius. We continue on to Nazareth, the town in which Christ grew up, where we visit the old synagogue and the Church of the Annunciation. We then travel on to Cana (where Jesus turned water into wine) before arriving on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
Dinner and overnight in the Nof Ginosar Kibbutz hotel is on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, just north of Tiberius, an ideal location for an after dinner stroll by the lake that Jesus knew so well.

Day 8 - Thursday
After breakfast we take a boat trip across the Sea of Galilee. We visit the ‘Jesus’ boat at the Ginosar kibbutz. By coach we travel to the Mount of Beatitudes, (the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount), Tabgha (feeding of 5000), and the lakeside shore (resurrection appearance of Jesus). We continue our drive along the Sea of Galilee visiting Capernaum, the centre of Jesus’ ministry and see the early Synagogue and Peter’s House. In Tiberias we will have access to the lakeside and should any of the guests request it, we would be able to arrange a baptism here.
Dinner and overnight at the Nof Ginosar hotel.

DAY 9 - Friday
As we travel south towards Tel Aviv, there should be time to visit the Mediterranean port of Joppa where Peter had stayed with Simon (a tanner). Our tour ends with the return flight to London (Luton).
