I warmly invite you to join this pilgrimage, following in the footsteps of Our Lord and Saviour. I am delighted that David Hudson of Holy Trinity, Ilkeston, an experienced organiser of pilgrimages, has helped put together the programme and will be joining the pilgrimage himself. We are offering a 10-day pilgrimage to allow time to see plenty of the sites and a rest day, and so as not to have to rush and make things too strenuous. The aim is for a holiday as well as for holy days with a small and friendly group. Our services at the holy sites will appeal to traditional Anglicans as well as to Christians of other traditions.
You will be most welcome to join us. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like more information.

Day 1 Saturday
Flight from Luton to Tel Aviv and transfer by coach to our hotel in Tiberias; a town situated on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.
Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.
Day 2 Sunday
After breakfast we make a short journey by coach to visit the River Jordan where we will re-new our baptismal vows. It is appropriate that we commence our pilgrimage/tour in this way, as for most of us our baptism was the beginning of our Christian journey through life. We continue by coach to visit the Basilica of the Transfiguration on the top of Mount Tabor. After lunch the journey continues to Nazareth visiting the Church of the Annunciation and Joseph’s Workshop. We then move to Cana, the site of the Lord’s miracle of the turning of water into wine, here there will be an opportunity, for those who wish, to re-new their marriage vows.
Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.
Day 3 Monday
We start the day with a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee, then we continue our journey by coach around the shores of the Sea of Galilee, which provides a focus on the early part of the Lord’s ministry. In Capernaum we see the excavated site of the fishermen’s’ houses and what is believed to be the foundations of the house of Peter and also the foundations of an early Synagogue; very much part of the life of Jesus. Our journey also takes in the Mount of Beatitudes, which commemorates the Sermon on the Mount, and the Church of St Peter’s Primacy situated on the edge of the sea. Within the vicinity is the beautiful Church of Tabgha, which commemorates the feeding of the five thousand.
Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.
Day 4 Tuesday
Today we leave Tiberias for our journey to Jerusalem via the Jordan Valley. We stop for lunch in Jericho (the City of Palms). After lunch we travel ‘up’ to Jerusalem stopping on the way at Bethany, a town important to Jesus, where we will visit the Tomb of Lazarus and the Basilica dedicated to his name in which there are interesting mosaics of Martha and Mary.
Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 5 Wednesday
In the morning we travel by coach to the Mount of Olives and visit the Mount of Ascension, and the Churches of the Pater Noster and Dominus Flevit. A walk down the Palm Sunday Road leads to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of the Agony (Church of All Nations). From there we visit the underground Church of the Tomb of Mary. After lunch we journey to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and view Shepherds’ Fields.
Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 6 Thursday
We start with a visit to the Church of St Mary Magdalene an Eastern Orthodox Church located on the Mount of Olives. We then visit Dormition Abbey and the Church of St Peter in Gallicantu. Lunch in the Old City. We then move to Ein Karem to visit the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist and the Church of the Visitation.
Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 7 Friday
We have an early start for a full day tour, visiting the hilltop fortress of Masada, where the Jewish Zealots held out against the Romans. Then visiting Qumran, where the shepherd boy found the Dead Sea Scrolls, a tour of the site and lunch at the restaurant there. Afterwards there will an opportunity to relax and have a float in the Dead Sea before returning to Jerusalem.
Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 8 Saturday
A reasonably early start for a walking tour of the Old City of Jerusalem. Entering through St Stephen’s Gate to visit the Church of St Anne and the Pools of Bethesda. This is followed by the Way of the Cross (Via Dolorosa) commencing at the Ece Homo arch. Our devotions will conclude at Calvary and the Holy Sepulchre where we will visit the Tomb of Christ. Lunch will be in one of the cafes in the Old City. In the afternoon we walk to Mount Moria and the Dome of the Rock via the Western Wall.
Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 9 Sunday
A FREE day when you will have the opportunity to relax or experience the Orthodox and Catholic services at the Holy Sepulchre or the Anglican Cathedral of St. George in the morning. The rest of the day could be spent exploring Old Jerusalem and/or revisiting some of the places we have been to on previous occasions, and reflect on our experiences of the last 8 days of our journey in the Holy Land.
Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 10 Monday
After breakfast we prepare for our journey to the airport at Tel Aviv for the return flight to Luton.
