This Year in Jerusalem, In the Footsteps of Jesus

Rick is currently a Trustee of Gideons in UK, and Regional Director for the South West. Previously Rick was employed as Chapel Manager at Westminster Chapel in London, and General manager at Brunel Manor in Torquay after a career of 35 years in the Footwear trade as a Shoe Designer and Manager.

Helen is currently leading sung Worship, at North Teignmouth Community Church, and Chair of Gideons in Torbay. Helen is an Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance, and a Dance Teacher.

Both have a long experience in Church Leadership and Christian Events.

They have a heart for Israel and have visited several times leading a party in 2013, and are delighted to be able to lead another party in learning and experiencing more of the Holy Land and walking again in the footsteps of Jesus.

We depart from London Luton airport on our flight to Tel Aviv. On arrival at Ben Gurion airport we will be met and transferred to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

We visit the Tower of David Museum to give us an overview of the history of the City of Jerusalem and continue to the City of David. After lunch we drive to Bethany and then Bethlehem to visit the Church of Nativity and the Shepherds’ Field.

We begin the day on the Mount of Olives for a spectacular view over the Old City of Jerusalem. Walk down the Palm Sunday road visiting Dominus Flevit and the Garden of Gethsemane. We continue to St Peter in Gallicantu, which was built over the site of the house of the High Priest Caiaphas and the dungeon where Jesus was imprisoned before his trial. We end the day at the Western Wall.

We begin the day at the Pools of Bethesda and Ecce Homo and travel back through history, walking the streets of old Jerusalem and the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Visit the Cardo and see the Broad Wall in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. We end the day at the Dead Sea Scrolls Museum and see the model of the Old City.

This morning we visit Bethel, Shiloh and Shechem before heading back to Jerusalem for a Service at the Garden Tomb.

We drive to Masada. This fortress city was built by Herod and is one of the most important historical sites in Israel. The cable car takes you to the plateau with its stunning views across to Jordan and the Land of Moab. There will be opportunity to bathe in the warm waters of the Dead Sea before visiting Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.
We then travel up the Jordan Valley Road to Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

Today we tour the Galilee region including Capernaum, the centre of Jesus’ ministry, Chorazin, Tabgha, where Jesus fed the 5,000, St Peter’s Primacy, the Mount of Beatitudes, associated with the Sermon on the Mount. We end the day with a boat trip on Galilee.

We drive to Tel Dan and continue to Banias, Caesarea Philippi before travelling back to Tiberias via the Golan Heights.

We visit Magdala and see the ancient synagogue and fishermen’s houses then drive to Nazareth Village, depicting life as in the times of Jesus and Nazareth Church. Drive to Mt Precipice to enjoy the views over the valley and then Gideon’s Spring, before we return to Tiberias, passing by Mount Tabor and seeing the fine views from Mt Arbel.

This morning we leave Tiberias and drive to Mount Carmel. We continue to Caesarea Maritime for a visit and then continue to the airport for our return flight to London Luton.

Passports, Visas and Vaccinations
Travellers are responsible for ensuring that they have a valid passport for travel to the relevant countries and that it is valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. A visa is not required for British Passport holders visiting Israel. At the time this brochure went to press no vaccinations or inoculations are required for travel but you may wish to consult your own doctor for advice concerning this. Further Information and Paying The Balance
Further information will be sent to you regarding any action that may be required approximately 12 weeks before departure. A final invoice will also be sent at this time and the balance for the tour must be paid at least 10 weeks before departure.

Travel Information
Full travel information, including details of meeting points, flight times, accommodation and travel information, will be sent to you approximately 2 weeks before departure. Normally, tickets are not issued but are handed to you at the airport or departure point by our representative who will be there to ensure that you depart without a hitch and to deal with any last minute difficulties.

Travel Insurance

Our normal procedure is to deal with tips on a group basis and these are included in the price. The tour leader will distribute them to the guide, driver and hotels on your behalf. Individual tipping is not recommended unless the circumstances are exceptional.

Room Check In and Check Out Times
The standard international practice is to let rooms from midday to midday. However times do vary. Check-in times are usually between 2pm and 3pm, check-out times between 11am and 12 noon on the day of departure. Therefore, if you check-in immediately after a night flight this would normally count as one night’s accommodation. Similarly if your return flight is at night you will normally be required to vacate your room at 12 noon prior to leaving for the airport. Day rooms are subject to availability/cost and should be arranged locally with the accommodation management.
