A wonderful tour of the Island of Cyprus

With the Very Revd James Atwell, Tour Leader

Saturday 14th - Saturday 21st September 2019

‘Returning and Rest in Cyprus’ 1 is picking up on a previous expedition to Cyprus in 2018. The time spent in the north of the Island introduced us to an exceptional hotel with its own sandy cove and a really caring guide. This new opportunity is restricted to the North with deliberately one venue and more time offered to enjoy the hotel with its beach and pool. An itinerary of interesting and less visited places has been carefully put together with two full-day, but otherwise half-day expeditions. There will be opportunity for relaxation and some spiritual refreshment, too. There will be an optional daily Eucharist, and separately I will offer a short reflection on the parables of Jesus each morning before we depart.

There should be enough stimulation to make each day different, time for rest and relaxation with sea and sunshine, as well as a dimension of ‘retreat’ for those who want to use the visit that way. Returnees and new travellers are equally welcome.

This is your invitation to be part of the venture.

James Atwell

The Maronites of Kormakitis traditionally speak their own variety of Arabic called Cypriot Maronite Arabic (CMA) in addition to Greek and recently Turkish. Originally from Lebanon and Syria, today’s Maronite community in Cyprus was shaped by four successive waves of emigration that started in the 8th century.
In the village we find the only Catholic church “St. George” offering a service on every other Sunday. Another interesting fact is that the village is being restored with the help of the Vatican.

rock tombs. After our return to the village, we will watch the preparation of some traditional food which in turn we will enjoy in a nice garden setting or indoors (depending on weather).

Room Check In and Check Out Times
The standard international practice is to let rooms from midday to midday. However times do vary. Check-in times are usually between 2pm and 3pm, check-out times between 11am and 12 noon on the day of departure. Therefore, if you check-in immediately after a night flight this would normally count as one night’s accommodation. Similarly if your return flight is at night you will normally be required to vacate your room at 12 noon prior to leaving for the airport. Day rooms are subject to availability/cost and should be arranged locally with the accommodation management.
